We use Teamviewer (Version 9) at https://www.teamviewer.com to manage all remote machines including the in-gallery ones.

Advantages
- one time cost
- Works across the board (OSX/Windows/Linux) and login via webpage
- access via mobile devices (pricey app though)
- File transfers and allows logon from basic screen
- Own branding
- a lot more (reporting,status,non-admin executables)

Disadvantages
- New releases are frequent. too frequent - and prompting you to upgrade at a fee. That could be a business model though all versions are available on their website.

- Rather pricey if your support team is large.

- I am struggling to think what else to add.

We also use Logmein Pro subscription for Project Based remote access who then can pay their share of a year or two's remote services without worrying about crossovers .

Apple Remote Desktop and Windows RDP is great for same network local links but not scalable unless you have investment in larger secure frameworks to connect inbound .

hope this helps

On a commercial basis we use logmein central to manage our clients machines mac and pc. Another option is to use avg cloudcare. This gives you antivirus, basic machine info and remote acces in one dashboard.

There are lots of options depending if you just want remote access and a bit of info or if you want automated reporting and pushing out updates.

I like logmein as i can access machines easily on desktop, laptop or my iphone. The extra login authentication is good to if you want security

Or something like LogMeIn where you aren't on the same network/VPN. We used LogMeIn for a load of Windows tablets we used in the galleries and it was fine for our (limited) needs, but I guess it comes down to what you actually need to do and how exactly Altiris doesn't meet those needs.

For the P.Cs we have been using Altiris by Symantec we have found this to be not a reliable solution, overcomplicated doesn't meet our needs.
