Workshop: Crowd-sourcing, Co-creation and Co-curation in the Cultural Sector
Tuesday, December 1, 2015
10am-4pm
The Lighthouse
11 Mitchell Lane
Glasgow, G1 3NU
This day-long event is organised by the Scottish Network on Digital Cultural Resources Evaluation and focuses on the relationship between cultural heritage institutions and users. How can cultural organisations engage with and actively involve a diverse user base, one that ranges from young children to experienced researchers, in a creative way? What methods are already out there for generating user-informed content and how have institutions then incorporated these new ideas, insights and perspectives into what they do? Often-used phrases, what does crowd-sourcing, co-creation and co-curation mean in practice? And perhaps more importantly what do these engagement strategies produce?
The day will include feature presentations from leading practitioners and scholars based in the UK and the rest of Europe, as well as opportunities for group work and discussion among participants.

Attendance is free but registration is required through Eventbrite.

Knowledge Exchange Event & MGS Digital Transformations Network meeting
Wednesday, December 2, 2015
10am-4:15 pm
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum
Argyle St
Glasgow, G3 8AG
This event is jointly organised by the Scottish Network on Digital Cultural Resources Evaluation and the Museums Galleries Scotland Digital Transformation Network.
It will be a hands-on exploration and exchange of different approaches to crowd-sourcing and co-creation. Aimed at cultural heritage professionals, the day will start with a meeting of the MGS Digital Transformations Network in the morning and then be followed in the afternoon by two hands-on workshops: Workshop 1: Crouwdsourcing in Cultural Heritage: The Basics led by Mia Ridge (British Library) ), and Workshop 2: Wikipedia and Editathons led by Sara Thomas (Museums Galleries Scotland Wikimedian in Residence) and assisted by Maarten Brinkerink (Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision).
The focus will be on thinking about how organisations can incorporate such practices into the design and implementation of digital cultural strategies aimed at meeting users' needs. The event will address a real need in the cultural sector for guidance on how best to effectively direct limited resources towards digital engagement strategies.
