The National Trust at Scotney Castle wishes to commission an external specialist to deliver an archive cataloguing and engagement project to be completed between February 2016 and July 2016.
A large archive and ‘hidden collection’ relating to the Hussey family of Scotney Castle remains in situ in drawers and boxes throughout the house. An overview survey has revealed this contains First World War diaries, medieval papers, family correspondence, and letters and photographs, along with other interesting and often surprising items.
Key project outcomes are to sort, catalogue and re-package the papers, to enable them to be accessed easily by the property and consultancy, to allow them to be interpreted for visitors and, ultimately to enable their deposit.
The specialist will oversee the project, catalogue, supervise volunteers, contribute towards a property blog and create a guide and processes for access and management of the archive.
