Well done, Alys, they appear to be Piper nigrum.
Best wishes,
Mark

Subject: mystery mineralised object
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what the attached could
be. They're from a mineralised pit, possibly cess pit, from a medieval
castle in France. I'm afraid the picture quality is rather poor but a
clear basal attachment point is visible in one picture with another
showing one I fractured which shows two cotyledons. They are 5-6mm long
and 3-4mm wide.
Thanks
Alys
