BRITISH RECORDS ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL CONFERENCE 26 NOVEMBER 2015
'In a league of their own': archives of the history of British sport and physical recreation
There are still tickets available for the BRA's annual conference 2015 and there is still time to acquire them. The conference takes place on 26 November at Swedenborg House in central London. Note the slightly earlier date than usual. The conference will be covering a fascinating range of archives and themes connected with the history of sport and physical recreation, including bowls, rowing, rugby league, sport in the public school and the University of Oxford, physical recreation for women and the collections of the National Football Museum.
Our expert speakers are Nat Alcock (BRA), Mark Blandford-Baker (Magdalen College, Oxford), Robert Clegg (University of Huddersfield), Karen Davies (University of Bedfordshire), Eleanor Hoare (Eton College) and Dr Alex Jackson (National Football Museum).
The Maurice Bond memorial lecture this year is being given by Dr Fiona Skillen (Glasgow Caledonian University), who will be talking about the challenges and rewards of researching women's sports history. Dr Skillen is the chair of the British Society of Sports History and has published ground-breaking work on female participation in sport and on the contribution of women to the development of modern sport and sporting cultures.
The standard price for the day is £75 but there is a discount price of £60 for members of the British Records Association and members of the British Society of Sports History. The student rate is £35.
The conference promises to be a very stimulating, informative and popular day for archivists and historians alike, so please book early if you would like to attend. For further details about the conference and how to book your place, go to the website of the British Records Association at
