It all depends on where you are working.
we all are aware of the reasons for not cleaning and the need to wear gloves however
it is my hospital infection control policy that all skin has to be cleansed prior to any venapuncture, and every nurse and dr will bring you up on it if you don't! plus i can be reported for not following hospital policy.
so it all comes down to where you are working and what your infection control policy states.
when i was a practice nurse i didn't have to cleanse the skin but apparently the CQC is now requiring them to do it now.
