Hi all,
This may be of interest to other early career people on the list.
The ESRC has apparently commissioned a survey on "the experiences and issues faced by early-career social scientists" in order to to "enable improvements to be made to existing support for early-career social scientists before, during and after their doctoral studies." It looks like a potentially worthwhile - and all too rare - opportunity for those of us with experience of or concerns about such issues as poor provision of and intense competition for postdoctoral research funding, the growing prevalence of casual and precarious employment in HE and enforced mobility to raise our voices (and, who knows, perhaps even be heard).
One small point: apparently the survey team are seeking input from those who already hold a PhD (i.e. not current doctoral students).
The survey is open until the 11th of November and can be found at: https://www.acss.org.uk/news/esrc-early-career-survey/
The direct link is: https://ioe.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/esrc-survey
I'd like to think that the more of us respond to the survey, the more weight its findings will carry with the ESRC, so it would be good to see a strong response from early career geographers.
All best,
Jeremy
