Dear Mike,
If one poses the question "Can machines design?", the literal, direct
answer, considering the state of the art, is "No". End of story.
It so happens that some people answered things like "No because machines
<whatever> and humans <whatever>" That was the ensuing debate, after the
initial reactions.
This is not StackOverflow. The point of having a forum such as this is
debate.
