Whatever the downsides to using a third party site such as Eventbrite, for the user there is the reassurance of transacting business with a brand they recognize and believe to be trustworthy.
I have in the past backed out of a transaction when I became less sure of the vendor's probity, I doubt I'm the only person to have done this.
