Flash should have seen the writing on the wall when iPhone was launched. We should be striving to deliver more and more HTML5 based web apps that are primarily aimed at the mobile / light device audience than desktops .
It is amazing how far we have come in terms of not requiring plugins for essential user interface design .
I remember when I was blown away by the Google completely HTML5 balloons interactive on Firefox that used no plugins signalling that the future was here.
On a related note ; we have just started releasing our books on the online version of Turning The Pages Application by Armadillo Systems (Note: this is not an endorsement of any company ; merely the technology ) and they are amazingly responsive on mobile without any dependencies.
A preview is available here

I might as well go out on a limb here and extend this to say : the native app is going the same was as flash. Native Apps would probably be less useful in the long run - perhaps the future is abstracting the code base to be more open source driven online web apps . Any platform any device.

Wow, cool, thanks Seb - really look forwards to seeing these - would
also be fascinating to hear what particular pitfalls you ran into /
benefits of each approach etc..
cheers!

We're in the process of migrating this over to HTML5, and whilst we had a few issues with video playback and general layout, we do now have a version that mostly replicates the original and seems to work fine on all mobile devices too - though I am reserving judgement until it goes live. When it does, I can post links to both the Flash and HTML5 versions so people can compare.
