Dear all,
(Apologies for any cross-posting)
Given the huge amount of work being undertaken by colleagues across the sector on HEA accredited CPD frameworks, I mooted some time ago that it might be useful to have a networking event at which we bring together some interested parties and share issues/best practice etc.,
I would like to get the ball rolling with this and would like to plan and host a one-day networking event at the University of Bedfordshire (Bedford Campus), in either October or November.
So, firstly, I would like to gauge interest and possible dates.
Please could you complete the Doodle Poll at http://doodle.com/w3p53ckiq3y7tfvg - please also encourage any of your colleagues to indicate whether they would be interested in attending by forwarding them this link.
If you could add any suggested content in the comments box that would be useful. Or, you could e-mail me (not the whole list please) and I will collate responses about content suggestions, etc.
I am proposing a small cost to cover lunch, so let me know if this would be problematic.
I look forward to you responses.
Best wishes,
Lisa Hayes

Hi Jane,
Please put me down as an interested party, from the University of Bedfordshire. We are also going to re-accredit next year for just D1-D3 - again, for a variety of reasons, that I'm happy to discuss too.
So, yes, peer-support across institutions for our direct D4 applicants would be a really useful approach to take.
Look forward to hearing more.
Best wishes,
Lisa

Thanks Tom, I will add you to the list of interested participants - currently Cranfield, OU and LSBU.
I am planning to set up the Dropbox by the end of this month. Are there any other takers out there? If so, please private message me on [log in to unmask] with your email so that I can add you to the Dropbox permissions list.
With best wishes, Jane

Thanks for suggesting this, a great idea. Please keep London South Bank University in mind I would like to get involved. I think with PFHEA a 'networked' approach makes most sense, especially given the relatively low number of claimants per institution.

Thanks Lisa, Penny and Juliet for reviving this list.
At the OU we are preparing for our 2016 re-accreditation. It is likely that we will re-accredit our CPD scheme at D1-D3 only and aim to provide excellent mentoring support at D4 for direct applications. This is for several reasons, happy to discuss these, but the point of this message is to flag that we would like to set up cross-institutional peer support so that applicants in different universities can be paired to co-mentor. This would be offered as an optional supplement to institutional mentoring arrangements.
This idea is in fact Tracey Bailey's from Cranfield (thank you Tracey!). Our two institutions have a very few early examples of such pairings and will be evaluating these. But the OU is a large and diverse institution so it would be nice to bring in other partners as well. Most of the demand would come from colleagues based in Milton Keynes so there is would be more potential for face to face contact from institutions in this area. But Skype may anyway be the preferred medium for busy people so we potentially could link up with anywhere. But if a scheme could be set up based on this list then pairings not involving the OU at all become possible.
Matching would be a bit like online dating and my ideas on how to do this are sketchy. Perhaps a dropbox with a spreadsheet giving key information for those seeking mentoring? Not their names, or any identifying info, but the contact person within the institution (i.e. someone on this list probably), timing of the application process, preferred MO (f2f or Skype), and a little about the context within which their evidence for D4 will be set. I attach a very early version which could be enhanced greatly I am sure. Those wishing to find a co-mentor could then fill out a simple pro forma, and send it to their institutional contact who would have access to the dropbox and update the sheet, taking time to check recent entries to see if there is a potential match already registered. If there is, contacts are made between the two institutional contacts and then if appropriate, between the two co-mentors.
I would offer to maintain the dropbox and spreadsheet (deleting old entries etc.) but not to do any brokering!
I will be interested to hear what you all think of this idea, best wishes, Jane

Hello Penny; I don't think we're short of topics! However, it wasn't clear that the list was active and I suppose we thought Raj might kick it off? But we can start (though may be a bad time of year!) Juliet

Hi Lisa
Thanks for raising this. This should be a busy and active discussion list given the huge amount of work going on in institutions with regard to HEA accredited provision, particularly the Fellowship recognition - but it doesn't seem to get used.
I asked at one of the recent Open Space events (Manchester, June 2015) if it was possible to use this list to notify people like myself, who run institutional frameworks, of events like the Open Space activity so hopefully this will be taken on board, although colleagues at that event (HEA and institutional representatives) were not clear about this mailing list and I was beginning to wonder if I'd dreamt about it...! Colleagues from the HEA said it was difficult to keep this list up to date given how people change jobs etc. but I would imagine there are many on this list who remain in the same roles, running institutional frameworks etc. We don't all change jobs that frequently - do we? I found it strange that the Open Space events were promoted via an HR group and via SEDA but not via this mailing list. (Meant I ignored the messages as I wasn't sure who they were aimed at until it was too late for me to enrol in the London event and had to incur more cost to travel to Manchester...)
It could have been used to give us a "heads up" about the recent request for the CPD Annual Review - would have been a good way of letting the sector know what was about to be asked of them and I am sure there are lots of other uses for it.

Hello all,
It has taken me some time to be added to this list, and I can't seem to find any archived messages - so not sure what discussion is or is not happening!
So, this e-mail is really a test message to see if there is anyone out there, or whether I am doing something completely wrong and thus can't find the archives of an extremely busy and active discussion thread!
Hoping to hear from someone :-)
Best wishes,
Lisa Hayes
