Some further thoughts on a possible link between Readshaw and Townsend.

CUTHBERTREADSHAWA relative of the family, Robert Readshaw, was appointed agent forthe London Lead Company's mines in Scotland in 1733. On his recommendation Caleb Readshaw'sbrothers, Cuthbert and John, became partners in the Craigtown Mining Company,to which Patrick Heron had granteda thirty-eight year lease to mine his land in return for a duty of every sixthbar or pan of lead mined in 1764. William Carruthers and George Clerk, both merchants in Dumfries, were also partners. Cuthbert Readshaw was mayorof Richmond in 1754 and 1768. CalebReadshaw, a close relation, was Lord of the manor of Grinton (Swaledale), whichadjoined Chauncy Townsend’s mines in Apedale. Donnachie, I.
