An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Scientist to join the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh.
The SMART centre provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services. The post holder will, depending on their background expertise, work across the clinical scientist services. In the first instance the post holder will work in the Gait Analysis Lab and Electronic Assistive Technology services. The proportion of time spent in each service will be subject to change as service needs dictate
The work in the gait analysis service will include working as part of multi-disciplinary team with a range of patients with pathological gait. They will also be involved in a national state of the art prosthetics service which will involve joint working with prosthetists and physiotherapists.
As part of the electronic assistive technology (EAT) service the post holder will assess individuals with complex disabilities and provide custom solutions to enable their independence within their home. The post holder should have clinical experience in, and technical knowledge of, environmental controls, specialist/bespoke powered wheelchair control systems and control interface solutions (switches, communication aids) and additionally be able to undertake mechanical design work for bespoke mounting systems.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who can apply engineering and scientific principles and knowledge in a clinical setting. The post holder will contribute to the technical operation of the department.
