The Department Methodology and Statistics at Maastricht University, The Netherlands, has a vacancy for a PhD student in Statistics within the Research School CAPHRI of the Maastricht University Medical Centre.
The successful candidate will carry out statistical research on optimal survey sampling for prevalence estimation and prediction modeling with respect to life style and health in so-called multilevel (i.e. nested) populations. Examples of such nesting are pupils in high schools, patients in family practices, and employees in companies. This research entails mathematical derivations and computer simulations to find and compare different sampling designs. The candidate is expected to publish this work in peer reviewed top journals in medical or behavioral statistics, to present this work on international statistical conferences, e.g. of the Int. Society for Clinical Biostatistics and the Int. Biometric Society, and to disseminate the results through practical guidelines and software for health scientists.
Requirements:
• Graduated with a MSc in Statistics, Psychometrics, Biometrics, Econometrics or similar
• Good mathematical and computer programming skills
• Good writing and expressional skills in the English language
Conditions:
Contract type: full-time position (38 hours/week), temporary, 4 years (evaluation after each year)
Salary: The gross salary will start at €2125 in the first year and can go up to €2717 in the 4th year
