Two postdoctoral positions are available in the group of Dr. Luca Pellegrini in the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Cambridge, UK, to work on the role of the synaptonemal complex and associated proteins in establishing the functional architecture of meiotic chromosomes, which is essential for correct pairing and recombination (Syrjanen et al, eLife, 2014). A multi-disciplinary approach involving biochemical, biophysical and cellular experiments will be used to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of synaptonemal complex assembly on the meiotic chromosome axis. The ultimate goal of the project is to advance our understanding of meiotic chromosome organisation, by means of biochemical reconstitution and structural characterisation using purified protein components.
Candidates will hold a PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics or Molecular Biology and must have a proven track record of research achievements. Previous experience in the analysis of multi-protein complexes and protein-DNA interactions, as well as familiarity with biophysical techniques such as X-ray crystallography, electron microscopy and single-particle analysis would be an advantage. One of the positions would be suitable for candidates trained in cellular biology and with an interest in the study of molecular mechanisms.
The funds for these posts are available for 3 years in the first instance. The salary is £28,695-£37,394.
Applicants should submit a CV with list of relevant publications, a cover letter explaining why they are suitable for the position and the contact details of at least two referees.
