Hi all,
We've just released a report on RDM workflows as part of the JISC
supported project "Consortia-based approach to integrated research data
management systems” (CREST RDMS project blog:
http://crest.ac.uk/category/crest-blog/). The project is a collaboration
between CREST, Leeds Trinity University, University for the Creative Arts,
ULCC and Arkivum.
The report is available on Figshare:
http://dx.doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.1476832
The report investigates some of the workflows and processes used by UK HE
institutions both large and small for various aspects of RDM. The report
takes a case-study approach by looking at specific examples that have
already been implemented or where improvements have been identified. The
report was written is to help determine which workflows to support in a
RDM shared-service to meet the needs of small and specialist institutions.
This is something that the project hopes to start prototyping if we are
successful in the next round of the JISC Research Data Spring
(https://www.jisc.ac.uk/rd/projects/research-data-spring).
Just to give you an idea of what's in the report, some of the case studies
include:
- How researchers at Southampton can meet EPSRC expectations for research
data.
- Data publishing and use of DOIs for computational chemistry at Imperial
College London.
- Use of Figshare and Arkivum in combination with Loughborough's CRIS and
IR.
- How EPrints at ULCC supports metrics by using IRUS-UK, Altmetrics and
Google analytics.
- Ways to build bespoke websites on top of an IR in the creative arts.
- How archivematica could be used in conjunction with an IR or CRIS.
- Linking EPrints publication and data repositories, e.g. for UEL and
LSHTM.
The project is quite small, so we haven't had opportunity to do anything
like a comprehensive job of documenting all the RDM workflow examples out
there. But, hopefully the report will still be of interest to a range of
organisations and is useful beyond the scope of our JISC project.
The report is just one of the outputs of the CREST RDMS project (more are
on the CREST blog above) and there are lots of other projects like us in
the Research Data Spring. All the projects are getting together in London
over the next couple of days, so I expect there'll be plenty of
interesting stuff to come!
Cheers,
Matthew
