Emotion and personality: Is the way that we deal with emotions linked to the way we view the world?
**For my MRes Developmental Psychology I am carrying out a final call for participants - please respond, it is only a short questionnaire! **
Participants aged 16 and over are being invited to take part in a postgraduate research project investigating the relationships between the way people view the world and the types of strategies that people use to deal with emotional events.
If you know of anyone who is over 16 and you think would like to take part, please forward this email as the study is open to anyone.
Taking part in the study is entirely voluntary and you do not need to respond to the questionnaire or to this email if you do not wish to take part. All responses will be anonymous.
The study consists of an online questionnaire that should take about 10-15 minutes.

PARTICIPANT INFORMATION
Emotions and personality: Does the way we deal with emotional events relate to the way we view the world?
The purpose of this information sheet is to provide you with sufficient information so that you can then give your informed consent. It is thus very important that you read this document carefully, and raise any issues that you do not understand with the investigator.
What is the purpose of the project?
The research is part of a study for an MRes Developmental Psychology dissertation.
The aim of the study is to investigate differences between males and females in the level of autistic traits (which are found in everyone to lesser or greater extents, not just in those with autism) and the types of emotion regulation strategies that people use. The key aim is to develop understanding of how these are linked.
Previous research has shown that males and females differ in both areas. This study also aims to investigate if these strategies and traits alter according to age.
Why have I been invited to take part?
You have been invited to take part as you are 16 years. It is desirable that you have a good command of the English language.
What will I have to do?
You will be asked to complete an online survey. The survey will comprise three questionnaires that assess: (i) basic demographic (e.g., age, gender), (ii) autistic traits in the general population, and (iii) emotion regulation strategies. Completion of the online survey should take no more than 15 minutes of your time.
Will my participation involve any psychological discomfort or embarrassment?
It is unlikely that any of the questions will lead to any discomfort or distress. However, please leave blank any questions you are not comfortable answering. This study and all its procedures have been risk assessed, and the study has been sanctioned by the institutional ethics review board.
Will what I say in the study be kept confidential?
All data will be anonymous and you will not be identifiable in any way. It will be kept by the supervisor for up to ten years (if a publication is prepared) and if no publication is planned, all data will be deleted by January 2016.
Who has reviewed the study?
This study and its protocol have received full ethical approval from the Department of Psychology Ethics, Oxford Brookes University. If you have any concerns about the way in which the study is being conducted, please contact the Department Research Ethics Officer, Morag MacLean on [log in to unmask]
How can I withdraw from the project?
You can withdraw from the study prior to completing the survey. If, while completing the survey, you decide you no longer want to take part, simply close the browser. The researcher will then delete any information collected to that point. It will not be possible to withdraw your data after submission but it will be anonymous.
If I require further information who should I contact and how?
Please contact principal investigator, Charlotte Lattin-Rawstrone [log in to unmask] or supervisor Dr. John Lawson, [log in to unmask]
Findings of the study will be available on request – these will be a summary of group data, not individual information.
