Hello all,
Sue's email reminded me that I meant to feedback about experiences with
Yahoo Pipes replacements...
We've moved all our pipes to Feed.Informer (http://feed.informer.com)
and have been using it for a few weeks now without any problems. It does
complain that some feeds (notably those from EBSCO) are not correctly
formatted when you try to add them, but it will still accept them.
One of the things we used to do with our Yahoo Pipes was try to filter
out items such as obituaries, contents pages etc, and this is still
possible in Feed.Informer by using the OR filter under 'Output filters'
and putting a minus in front of any words or phrases you wish to exclude
from a feed.
For examples, our feeds use the following set of OR filters to remove
veterinary-related and other items:
-rat -rats -dogs -porcine -equine -mice -mouse -mcqs -"editor's view"
-authorship -"general information" -index -contributors -editorial
-"proquest search results" -"in process" -"table of contents" -credits
-"about the cover" -obituaries -obituatury -"book review" -"book
reviews" -"book and media reviews" -contents -preface -"forthcoming
issues"
With regards to Netvibes, sadly we had to stop using it completely a
couple of years ago as it no longer worked on our Trust's network.
Hope that helps!
Kind regards,
Jason.

Subject: Current awareness software
Just wondering whether by any chance anyone has considered using the
PAID version of Netvibes rather than the free version, for delivering
their current awareness content . If so, would you be willing to let us
know your thoughts (e.g. why you decided to proceed or not, any
strengths or limitations of the tool).
Also - with Yahoo pipes going - has anyone looked at the alternative
options that were circulating on LIS-Medical a short while ago, or even
found other alternatives that look as if they will 'do the job' and be
robust and relatively future proof?
