A few weeks ago I posted a question asking about library's experiences of using rolling stack shelving for library users to access, and what has been put into them. A few people were interested in the replies I had received, so here is a brief summary:
Have you continued your normal sequence into the rolling stack or have you put certain collections into the rolling stack?
- 5 of the 6 of the libraries which responded had put specific collections into the rolling stacks.
- 1 library had put books with specific loan types into the rolling stacks
If so, which collections?
- 3 libraries had put journals into rolling stacks
- Other collections included leaflets, pamphlets, oversize books, research books, standard loan books and resources for specific subject areas
How did you decide what to put into the rolling stack?
- Items with low usage / circulation was mentioned by 3 libraries
Did you encounter any problems with using rolling stacks?
- Library users can find them confusing to use, even with instructions and videos available
- Electronic rolling stacks often break down
- Library users have difficulties finding the stock in the rolling stacks. Roaming can help with this.
Thank you to everyone who replied to my original post
