Good morning again
On the back of last week's epistle, we have discovered another feature of our migration (or at least some of our Borrowing libraries have!). Alma's weekly Borrowers' reports list all items still sitting on patron records, and in many cases this includes items which were flagged as "lost" several years ago. We'll need to investigate how to remove these items from records, but it will take some time to sort, I suspect. Several libraries have already contacted us, and I'll try to respond to them individually. In the meantime therefore, please ignore automated emails from us relating to items due back to us earlier than 2014.
I apologise for any inconvenience.
Best wishes

Subject: Update: University of Edinburgh - all sites
Dear Colleagues
Ok, so Alma has been switched on, but it has thrown up one or 2 surprises which might have already affected some of our borrowing institutions over the past 3 days. We discovered that books were being issued for 12 weeks instead of the expected 6 weeks..... a simple modification to the due date would solve that in the short term, or so we thought. Not quite! The result is that "recall" notices have gone out from Alma to these libraries before the books have even left the library.
I'm pleased to say that this anomaly has now been fixed. However, if you have received a recall notice since Monday for an item which you've not yet received, you can assume that the book is on its way to you; the date on the notice is the intended 6-week loan period, and the loan is probably still eligible for renewal.
Apologies for any confusion!
As indicated last week, we do have a bit of a backlog, so please bear with us till we get back up to speed
Best wishes

Subject: University of Edinburgh - all sites - limited service for next week or so
Dear Colleagues
Edinburgh University is about to migrate to a new Library Management Platform, and in preparation for that move next week, our current system is effectively being switched off this afternoon. We will have no access to Circulation activities at least until Monday 29th, and possibly beyond. We shall therefore be unable to renew existing loans. We'll also be unable to discharge any returned loans, so it is possible that when we go live with our new system, you may still receive overdue notices, even though you have already returned the book. Please bear with us until things work their way through.
In the meantime, we can continue to process new loans, although we won't have an up to date picture of our stock. There will also be a staff shortage until next Wednesday (1st July). Service is therefore likely to be slower for the next couple of weeks. We apologise for any inconvenience and assure you that we'll try to get up to speed again as quickly as possible.
Best wishes
