The Laboratoire Psychologie de la Perception (LPP) associated with
Université Paris Descartes and the National Center of Scientific Research
(CNRS) will be inviting applications for a full-time appointment at the
assistant/associate professor level with lifetime tenure (maître de
conferences). The expected employment date is September 1, 2016.
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent and a demonstrated ability to
pursue an independent research program. Applications are open mainly to
candidates working in the fields covered by the research in our lab, namely
perception (mostly vision), perception-and-action, and language (please
consult our website at http://lpp.psycho.univ-paris5.fr/) but other related
fields may be considered. Within these fields candidates' research can
address perceptual and cognitive processes in adults and/or
infants/children, in either typical or atypical subjects. The methods used
may include behavior and psychophysics, imagery, and/or EEG, as well as
computational and modeling techniques.
The successful candidate will participate in teaching at both the master
(Master en sciences cognitives, Master biologie cellulaire, physiologie et
pathologie) and undergraduate (BSc in biomedical sciences), including
courses covering general cognitive processes in adults and/or infants, an
introduction to their basic neurophysiological substrates, as well as
methodology (statistics, programming, etc.). A mastery of French sufficient
for teaching is obligatory.
Our laboratory is situated in the medical school of the Université Paris
Descartes, in the center of Paris. Salary depends on professional
experience, and includes generous social benefits.
Applicant Instructions:
Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest (including a
statement of research interests and evidence of excellence in teaching), a
current CV, representative publications, and the names of at least three
scholars familiar with their research and/or teaching. At this initial,
informal stage this information is for the members of the LPP. Other
documents will be required for the official application.
More details on the official submission process will be available once the
opening is officially published, which will be in late December 2015 or
early January 2016 and will be closed by the end of February. The reason
for the present early announcement is that the candidate must first obtain
a French “Qualification aux fonctions de maître de conférences” for
university teaching. The deadline for this separate application will be
October 22, 2015. Details (in French) can be found here:
https://www.galaxie.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/ensup/cand_qualification.htm
The university commission may waive this preselection process for some
outstanding candidates. However, this decision typically occurs only in
early March so that candidates having applied without a qualification take
the risk of being disqualified before the beginning of the selection
process proper.
