Hello All
Working Hours: Full time
Employment Type: Permanent
Salary: £26,293 - £29,558
Closing Date: 19 July, 2015

With one million visitors a year, we’re looking for a user researcher to help us better understand our audiences. You’ll work on all sorts of fun, meaningful research projects at Bristol’s flagship museums which include Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and M Shed. Our small team of user researchers (you’ll be doubling it) are key figures in the organisation. You’ll work across teams to gain insights into who our audiences are and what they think of us, taking action to iteratively improve our service. You are the voice for our visitors, helping us to keep them at the core of everything we do.
If you’re a user researcher here, you’ll be proactive in really exciting projects which will test our assumptions about our audiences’ behaviours. A typical day might see you conducting research on visitors’ experiences in our world-class exhibitions and galleries, finding evidence about how people are moving around our spaces or leading a team of volunteers doing face-to-face surveys.
If you had already been a user researcher at Bristol’s museums, here’s some of the work you might have done:
Helped us to design and test a brand new website with insight from real visitors. http://www.labs.bristolmuseums.org.uk/
Improved our processes of collecting and understanding visitor survey data by taking a digital-first approach.
Helped us to understand audience segmentation models, with a focus on Audience Finder from the Audience Agency.
You’ll be based in the transformation team, helping managers understand the data you’ve collected. You’ll be a clear communicator in person and in writing, and be confident in explaining user needs to senior stakeholders. You’ll take complex data and explain what it means in a useful, clear way. You’ll share your knowledge on our blog and by speaking at events.
If you choose to apply and have examples of your work you’d like to show us, we’d love to see them. Please feel free to include links to anything you think is relevant in your application. If you get invited to an interview, we’ll take you on a tour of one of our buildings. Before the interview we’ll ask you to present for 10 minutes – please be ready to bring your examples with you to talk through with us.
Please ensure you read the advert, job description and employee specification carefully before applying – CVs cannot be accepted.
