Hi Averil
When we moved over to version 2 of Libguides at Birmingham City University, one of the things I liked was the ability to manage our electronic resources using their 'database asset manager' - from a central store.
This meant from an eresource librarian point of view, real ease of use. Swapping over for example an eresource link on an Athens resource (that had suddenly gone down) over to an EZProxy link and back - across say 20 Libguides and our AtoZ list - in a matter of minutes. The jump to v2 prompted us to get rid our previously misleading labels such as 'on /off campus', and also give an instant mobile -friendly face which we could add elsewhere into institutional portals. We are also hoping to integrate Libguides v2 panels into Summon.
If I had a criticism it might be that some of the subject /'Best Bets' ecology seems a bit misleading or unwieldy - I'm not sure that students will dig down too deep into some of our subject tags. And as with other products, the temptation is always there is to publish, and say too much, to become too 'librarianly' - which is where their handy stats package - which I think was new to v2 - came in, to show exactly how they are used.
Hope that helps!
Regards
Mark

Subject: [lis-e-resources] LibGuides 2
Dear all
In a couple of months we're going to switch over to LibGuides 2. We've had quite a lot of time to work on the new guides and hopefully will have covered everything before we go live. I was wondering if anyone had any tales/advice to share relating to the transition from LibGuides 1 to 2? What problems did you encounter? What went well? What would you do differently?
many thanks
Averil Robertson
