Hi Craig,
Thanks for getting back to me. We were going to beta test the latest version of Helix as this will prevent the student from potentially editing a video that they have submitted to an assignment. However we decided to go with the recommended "stable" version. We will initially only use Helix for staff to add their lecture capture, screencasts, student submission will come later. I'll update my post when/if we get this resolved.
kind regards,
Alison

Subject: Re: Blackboard & Helix building block integration
HI Alison
We have recently been piloting the use of the Helix integration, particularly focussed on allowing students to submit videos using the Blackboard assignment tool. We too experienced some issues with the final phase of the submission, but didn’t receive an error message. The pop up screen would often 'timeout' and go blank, rather than automatically closing. Therefore whilst the video made it to the server, the video link wasn't embedded in the content editor, meaning the student either submitting a blank submission or tried again. Our helix building block/server is the same but we are on a different Blackboard release (April 2014, CU4)
Build Details
Blackboard release: 9.1.201404.160205
Helix building block version: 2.1.0
Helix Media Library server version: 3.1.018 ("stable version")
It's worth noting that when we raised our issues with Streaming, they provided us with a newer building block (2.1.1) - perhaps you could try that? We have not yet installed this on our production server. Currently we recommend students upload videos on campus only, as we found those attempting at home ran into upload speed issues anyway, which may have been part of the problem.
Happy to discuss off list, we are looking to roll this out for more media submissions next year.
Cheers

Subject: Blackboard & Helix building block integration
Hi everyone,
Is your institution using Blackboard with content and community license and Helix Media Library building block? I would be interested to hear from other institutions if they have experienced problems with the Helix building block integration:
When we use the Helix Media Library mashup within the Blackboard text editor it fails to embed the video into the text editor. This was something that was all working prior to upgrading the Helix building block and Helix Media Library server. Streaming are currently investigating this but any insight from the Blackboard community would be much appreciated.
Build Details
Blackboard release: 9.1.201410.160373
Helix building block version: 2.1.0
Helix Media Library server version: 3.1.018 ("stable version")
Steps taken from Blackboard
1. Build content - Item
2. Enter a title
3. Within the text editor, click on Mashups and select Helix Media Library 4. Select Search 'choose existing media item'
5. This will display the videos in a users personal category 6. Select a video 7. Accept the defaults on the Student View - Preview page and click Finish 8. At this point the video should embed into the text editor
* At step 4 there is another option to upload a video from elsewhere e.g. desktop, this still gets an error message when clicking Finish and doesn't embed in the text editor but the video does upload to my personal category on the Helix Media Library.
many thanks in advance
Alison
