An F contrast is a two-tailed test, asking whether there are differences in ANY direction between conditions (A>B or A<B); a T contrast is a one-tailed test, asking whether there are differences in one direction (A>B for example). Try a T contrast at the group level that replicates what you've done in the subject level.
