Google Street-View
[Bellevue Ave and Place, Seattle]
Old Lab' and I, out just now
in morning still cool, saw
a Google Street View car -
on top a big blue sphere
with black squares
where I guess the views
get in. It rounded
the corner while I wondered:
Will we be part of the view
soon to appear to us
on-screen if it occur to us
to google Bellevue Place?
Once we lived in Doncaster
Vic. Standing still, still there
on the front porch are
my wife and her visitor.
Google them, admire.
Captured, stilled, on view
for who knows how long? -
until the next visit from
the Street View car team,
its all-seeing all-filming eye.
A passing gallery
of deferred mortality.
As in certain cemeteries
your coffin's contents - safe
not in perpetuity
but till your family's
purchased contract expires -
Google's winged chariot's
hurrying near. All sites
in time are visited, yet
for not reality but realty's sake.
View-man, pass by - zoom in,
zoom out, zoom on. Why does this
exhilarate me? imagining
I'm flying, eyeing everything,
fixed, fluid, streaming.
My Lab's nostrils are flaring.=
