Hello,
Thanks for the responses to my question about group study room booking software. Please find a summary below.
Teeside University
Use LibCal and they have problems with multiple bookings.
They use roving support to police students who misuse the group rooms.
Their students can book the rooms for a maximum of 1.5 hours a day.
Imperial College
They use Connect2 for room bookings (http://www.lorensbergs.co.uk/products/connect2academic/)
They have set up rules, so that only one booking can be made. They are not sure how successful connect2 software is in managing multiple bookings for the same group, recycling student ids, using invalid ones and misusing other student id’s without permission.
University of East Anglia
They use manual system but they have commissioned their IT department to develop a room booking system that will work with their student record system. They asked their IT department to develop a booking system that has verification functionality in-built to their LMS to stop students from making multiple books and using invalid IDs.
De Montfort University
Use a software that is linked to their access control system, Sentry ISIS, but have the same issues of students in the same group making consecutive bookings with different ID cards to keep the rooms. Recommends a system where all members of a group sign in, so the same component members cannot be together for more than one booking.
University of Roehampton
They use a system called Planyo: https://www.planyo.com/
They have the problem of students recycling other students’ IDs.
Bookings is limited to 4 hours per day per group.
They can run reports which they use to see usage of the rooms.
They have a couple of rooms for which students with special needs have priority.
From the summary above, it’s clear that there is no software in the market that prevent students from making multiple bookings for the same group and recycling other student’s ids numbers. I think a system that allows all groups to sign in together for their slot is a way forward?.
Thanks again everyone.
