Dear Asghar, I agree more than whole-heartedly … Actually for me it does not need any of those “complicated” arguments: I am working (amongst others) with a law background and always highlight (sometimes against the odds) that rights are rights - that is all and there is no need or possibility to calculate them, weight them ecc.
- Though you are alf course correct in what you wrote.
But this is why I write the original mail (perhaps the intended cynicism did not work): the offered job seems to be one that is exactly neglecting this point, offering a precarious position, badly paid if I look at the requirements ….
And precarious jobs are a problem when it comes to issues of rights and defying them: to some they may look better than nothing; for me that are just a disrespectful “offer”.
I published on this on different occasions —
Best,
Peter

A well-heard argument in this respect is that today's younger population is tomorrow's older population. Also, perhaps a stringer argument is that the promotion of rights of older people is beneficial for the whole society, young and old, especially when empowerment of older people prevents the loss of valuable expertise in the society, preserve the potential of older people, and strengthen each society’s human and structural resilience. Such social investment principles are much more powerful than the passive management of older people left marginalised as their rights are not recognised exclusively by the society.
