In light of this attack, I have to second what Gunnar says here.
"In my time on the list, I have seen massive intellectual generosity on Ken's part”
While it had been a long time since I contributed, I first subscribed to the list when I was about to defend my dissertation. In those early and uncertain times, I appreciated that Ken encouraged me to post, to take a position and see what others thought about it. Whether active on the list or not, I have only ever seen deep concern for the discipline—it’s direction and intellectual rigor. Disagree with a position—sure. (It’s what Ken would encourage as well as Katherine.) But attacking his motives is just plain sad.
And now I will take good advice and ignore the troll.

I have been an active participant for about fifteen years but Ken was in from the beginning and has been a mainstay even while other founders have reduced their presence. If Ken sometimes seems proprietary about the list, he has earned that right.

This is not to say that Ken is beyond criticism or that regular posters should be treated as if beyond reproach. I have called Ken on the rare times that I thought he was out of line and have no doubt about his willingness to return the favor. It is, however, slightly disingenuous to pretend that he should be regarded as incidental to an effort by a massive collective.
