Bury College is a Further Education College offering a wide range of courses to over 5000 full time students and over 5650 part time students each year. The college currently works with over 50 high school partners, welcoming students from Bury and the surrounding areas.
We are now looking to recruit a part time Librarian to join us to provide a first class information service to staff and students to enhance their teaching and learning practices and ensure that all resources have direct relevance to the curriculum in a way which supports the learners subjects.
Supervising the day to day running of a busy College library and promoting an ethos of productive study and appropriate standards of behaviour as expected in a diverse study area, you will support students to act responsibly and in line with College policies and procedures. Providing a variety of tutorial support materials and resources to support the holistic and curriculum needs of the student body, you must liaise with teaching staff to advise on collection management and development, ensuring the collection is relevant and up to date for reading lists and teaching requirements, both for FE and HE.
You will also be responsible for the automated Library Management System, maintaining bibliographic control of resources, and provide information and statistical reports to meet service and College requirements.
Candidates for this role must hold a graduate or post graduate library qualification, a working knowledge of library management systems and experience of implementing and managing new electronic resources e.g. databases, discovery systems. Able to train staff in library procedures, you should have experience of demonstrating on-line resources e.g. Library catalogue, e-books, e-journals, VLE and of delivering information skills sessions.
The ability to maintain an appropriate learning environment in the LRC for all students and a working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal Classification system are both essential requirements for the position.
