Dear all,

List members may be interested in the following opportunity.

Centre of the Cell is the first science education centre in the world to be located within medical research laboratories. The Centre is located in Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets, East London.

We are seeking a Project Manager for our Heritage Lottery Funded ‘Young Roots’ project, Wartime Medicine and Innovation. This project will allow young people aged 14 – 18 to explore the huge changes that came about in medical practice as a result of the First World War and how this affects the lives of people today. Participants will undertake research using the archives of the Royal London Hospital Museum and the Science Museum and develop and deliver a hands-on workshop for the young participants’ peers, families, and the wider public during school holidays. The post holder will work closely with Centre of the Cell’s Youth Forum and the Royal London Hospital Museum and the Science Museum to deliver this project. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the project is delivered in time and on budget.

Suitable candidates will have experience of developing learning activities and resources and of working and supervising young people aged 14 – 18. Thorough knowledge and understanding of work practices related to informal learning and outreach is essential. They will need to be enthusiastic in communicating with young people, and show excellent organizational skills to deliver a successful project. Experience of managing informal learning projects, ideally heritage, history or science projects, is essential.

The post is part time (2 days a week / 0.4FTE) for 6 months starting from end of June 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting salary will be £31,735 pro rata inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (pro rata), defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Ms Katie Chambers at [log in to unmask] or on 020 7882 2565.
