There has long been a public debate about how Palestinian refugees handle the tension between their integration in Jordan and their commitment to the Palestinian national predicament. There is a widely-held collective opinion that Palestinian refugees - male adolescents and young men especially - nurture anti-government sentiments. In this blog post, however, which is based on the Article 'Becoming a Man in al-Wihdat: Masculine Performances in a Palestinian Refugee Camp in Jordan', which was recently published in International Journal of Middle East Studies, it is argued that careful scrutiny problematizes these common prejudices.
