Hi Richard
Like Esther we, at Brunel, tend to leave it up to the academics to decide what they would like to do with their new course shells each academic year. They are free to either copy the content or start afresh. Generally, although the majority do opt for copying previous content, we feel it gives them an opportunity to step back and decide how to improve the quality of their online provision.
Our team do not offer content rollover as a service, and academics seem fine with this. It reinforces the fact that they are responsible for the content. There are instances where some may require support with copying content- but we are happy to help!
As an aside, each year we review our institutional template and ensure that it is continually improved so that academics can benefit from what is hopefully a better initial course shell (informed by student evaluations and our own experiences of supporting the previous academic year). This year we have also tried to get staff to feed into the process of shaping the institutional template.
Hope that helps and happy to speak to you further off-list, if you wish.
Thanks,
Anu

Subject: Rolling over content from one academic year to the next
Hi all,
As we plan ahead for the beginning of 2015/16, I am interested to hear of what other institutions do in terms of setting up course areas for the new academic year.
Is content rolled over into new courses and then handed over to academic staff or are staff given an empty course to upload their files again?
If content is copied over, how is this achieved and are there processes in place to ensure that links are not broken?
If no content is copied across, how is this received by the staff? Do they expect their files to be copied?
Any information would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Richard Dudley
