Subject: FW: Next Generation Rail: Building Skills to Innovate
Importance: High
Dear John and Mark
Would it be possible to circulate the email below to the members of UTSG please?
RSSB with RRUKA and the Young Rail Professionals organise an annual summer event called ‘Next Generation Rail’<http://rruka.org.uk/events/ngr2015/> (2-3 July 2015, Coventry). Here’s the video about last year event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwHDB0MS3-E
The conference is targeted at PhD students, early-career researchers and young rail professionals in order to foster collaboration and innovative thinking. The event also supports the important issue of rail recruitment and aims to stimulate interest in rail careers. The conference will give young delegates the opportunity to showcase research and innovation and to develop their skills to progress their career in rail. We have a number of competitions they can sign up to: Best Academic Research, Best Poster, Best Industry Case Study (http://rruka.org.uk/ngr2015competitions/)
The theme of the 2015 conference is ‘Knowledge without Borders’ – delegates will hear from representatives from international rail companies and learn about best practice strategies to common rail challenges, new approaches and solutions and what GB rail can learn from this. The theme is also intended as in ‘thinking and learning innovatively’, so we will focus a lot on innovation and what can young professionals do to encourage innovation in rail.
The delegates have a choice of site visits<http://rruka.org.uk/ngr2015sitevisits/> and skill-focussed workshops<http://rruka.org.uk/ngr2015skillshops/> to attend – the workshops are meant to be masterclasses on specific skills that young professionals and academics would need to support their career development and include topics such as communications, innovation, writing successful proposals, project management, six sigma etc.
There will be lots of networking opportunities, team-building activities and a dinner at Warwick Castle<http://rruka.org.uk/ngr2015dinner/> on Thursday 2nd July.
Thanks,
Giulia
