Two recently opened fellowship schemes at the University of Leeds offer opportunities for scholars in history of science, technology and/or medicine to become visiting fellows at Leeds for varying periods over the next academic year:
(1) CHENEY FELLOWSHIPS IN THE INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDY OF CULTURE
Now in its third year, the Cheney Fellowships scheme enables successful applicants, both early-career and more senior, to undertake a period of research at the University in connection with one of three interdisciplinary research themes. For the 2015-16 academic year one of the themes will be Culture. Under the auspices of a new interdisciplinary institute to be opened later this year, the University is promoting a new vision of scholarly engagement with culture in all its diversity.
The University is keen to receive applications from potential Cheney Fellows proposing imaginative research projects in this spirit, linked if possible with one or more of the following research areas:
• Research making use of the distinctive holdings of the University Library's Special Collections, which are rich in holdings in HSTM;
• Research relating to the Thackray Medical Museum and other cultural partners;
• Research relating to new methods in digital humanities;
• Research relating to new methods in the study of science, technology and culture.
The deadline for expressions of interest to be received is Tuesday 9 June.
(2) WELLCOME/LHRI POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN MEDICAL HUMANITIES
Thanks to a recent grant by the Wellcome Trust to the University, opportunities are now available for 3-6 month postdoctoral fellowships in the history of medicine and other areas of medical humanities, to be held at the LHRI, and with a view to successful applicants using the time at Leeds to put together funding applications that might enable them to return to Leeds on a longer-term basis.
The application is straightforward and only two pages. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
