Mike,
The Modes client (esp. the data grid) makes use of a thumbnails table
which is maintained automatically by the program. However, I'm assuming
you are wanting access to images in a web context, in which case that
won't help.
Modes doesn't store images in the database; it simply records where they
are stored on disc. So in that sense, serving images from Modes is no
different from serving them from any environment where you know the file
name and path.
I have written an image server program which some Modes users will
have. This can deliver images either by reference to the record in
which they are recorded, or directly from their filename. It includes
support for a 'maxsize' parameter which sets the height (from portrait
images) or width (for landscape ones).
