Hello
I'd like to echo Danny's call to try working with digital artists.
By coincidence rather than design we've worked on two very different audio digital works. Both were really good experiences for all of us involved.
Our first work in 2011 was Ghostwriter with Blast Theory. This was mobile based and gave us a very different view of our collections. The Blasters were great in supporting the work at talks and events too. Our management team were positive about embracing digital art and that top down support created a positive feel around the work from the start. http://www.rammuseum.org.uk/exhibitions/ghostwriter
Recently we've worked with Chris Watson to produce Ebb and Flow, an in museum audio piece using natural sounds from different habitats across the seasons and is on for this year. Again Chris has been wonderfully supportive and brought a fresh vision to our collections. http://www.rammuseum.org.uk/exhibitions/ebb-and-flow-seasonal-sounds-through-the-devon-year
On a practical note both of these projects were funded through the New Expressions programme. Curatorial and collections staff have worked with the artists with my involvement as needed.
Currently we are working on a series of curator lead artist's reflections inspired by the collections and some include digital elements. Scanning a Victorian truncheon is not as easy as we first thought!
I think Danny's work has set the bar high and we should all make a midsummer resolution to try and work with digital artists to that standard!
Regards
Rick
