Colleagues,
We are pleased to inform that following the RDA Technical Advisory Board review and Council review , the Geospatial IG's Charter https://rd-alliance.org/groups/geospatial-ig.html is now formally recognised and endorsed. Our thanks to Council, TAB and all members of our community for thier inputs into the Geospatial Charter and thier support. This now helps us move forward with our activities faster.
Even though the Research Data Alliance https://rd-alliance.org/ is a very young organisation (just 3 years old!) there are amazing results focused on tangibly accelerating progress for global data sharing and increase data-driven innovation coming out thanks to the vibrant community behind it. You can see some examples at https://rd-alliance.org/sites/default/files/attachment/RDA_Outputs_May2015_web.pdf
Thank you also for all of you who provided inputs following the call to help us find two co-chairs to lead the Geospatial Summer Schools as part of Research Data Alliance-CODATA Summer Schools initiative
https://rd-alliance.org/group/geospatial-ig/post/research-data-science-schools-inputs-needed-geo-community.html
We are now pleased to inform that we have got two co-chairs to take this Summer School initiative forward on behalf of the Geospatial IG - Dr Pierre-Philippe Mathieu (European Space Agency) and Dr Xingong Li (University of Kansas, USA who also leads our ICA-OSGeo-ISPRS lab there). They both are the best candidates to lead our Geospatial themed summer schools for this as both of them have lot of expertise that we can build upon ideas. They will now work directly with the chairs of the RDA-CODATA Summer School initiative (Hugh Shanahan, Andrew Harrison, Simon Hodson) to explore ideas on organising Geospatial focussed Summer School as part of the planned Research Data Science Schools that they are planning. Thanks again for everyone who provided inputs and we look forward to work with you to make this initiative a success.
We are planning to have our next meeting at 6th RDA Plenary in Paris from 23-25 September 2015. We welcome community members to send ideas on how we all can contribute inputs for accelerating data-driven innovation and expanding ideas on Geospatial Data Science. We look forward to working together for RDA's vision of researchers and innovators openly sharing data across technologies, disciplines, and countries to address the grand challenges of society.
Best wishes,
Suchith Anand, Peter Baumann, Luciene Delazari, Helena Mitasova, Andrea Perego, Chris Pettit
