I would also like to add that I am aware that Jisc are doing something along similar lines as part of the Spotlight programme; I believe that the pilot phase will be underway soon followed by a series of workshops and webinars to support HEIs with their collection discovery work. Watch this space!
In the meantime Jisc has some useful guides on their website - I searched Spotlight http://www.jisc.ac.uk/search/spotlight
Sounds like there is going to be lots of support and resourcing going on which is all good news :-)

Subject: Re: Using university archive collections in academic teaching and research
Dear Eleanor
This is one of the subjects we plan to address as part of a new programme of work TNA is launching this summer: a support and development programme for higher education archives.
We have consulted university and higher education archivists to design the programme, which will respond to the key issues and opportunities that you face. The programme will include development of a network, and research, guidance, training events and advocacy.
The use of archives as a research and teaching resource was one of the key issues that the archivists identified. This included the shift within universities towards a more student -centred approach, so the need for archive teams to develop ways of teaching students as well as supporting researchers. Many archivists also commented on the challenge of forging working relationships and partnerships with academics in their own institutions - who often seem to look elsewhere for archives rather than within their own institution!
We will launch the programme formally this summer - with more detail about the programme content and dates for meetings and events.
With best wishes
Isobel

Subject: Using university archive collections in academic teaching and research
Hello all
I hope some of you can help! This is one for university collections and archives I think mainly...but all ideas are welcome!
Here at LSE we are looking at ways of ensuring all the academic departments within the university itself are aware of the archive and special collections we hold in the library. This is so we can promote the collections' use in a number of ways, such as supporting the delivery of taught courses, student research and academic staff research, where there is relevance and connections with courses.
Has anyone been successful in implementing this type of work across an academic institution within which your archive/collections fall?
We have infrastructures here within which we will work in terms of contacts, but any top tips on methods and ideas to encourage engagement from academic departments would be gratefully received!
Many thanks in advance for your help and enjoy the BH weekend!
Eleanor
