A NERC sponsored training course followed by a workshop will be held at University of Glasgow 24-29th August 2015. The training course is intended for PhD students in Environmental Sciences, and there are a number of NERC sponsored places available.
The training course covers statistics, risk, and uncertainty (Mon-Thursday) and will provide specialised training and practical experience using R in statistical modelling including managing and manipulating large data sets, data visualisation, understanding the power and limitations of statistical methodologies. The course provides core training in statistical theory, modelling and computation using the statistical software R. The range of topics covered include trend analysis and time series models, flexible regression, spatial modelling, modelling extremes, random effect models and Bayesian methods.
The training course will then be followed by a 2 day workshop on Environmental data analytics, focusing on handling large data frames from earth observation and environmental sensors in R, statistical machine learning, high frequency time series and functional data analysis. Data visualisation will be an integral theme of the workshop sessions.
