SYNCHROTRON BASED FAR-INFRARED VIBRATIONAL-ROTATIONAL SPECTROSCOPY WORKSHOP
The Canadian Light Source will be hosting a workshop on the collection and analysis of High-Resolution Vibrational-Rotational spectra, on June 26th and 27th 2015 at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, directly after the International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy. The purpose of this workshop is to provide a practical introduction about the analysis of Vibrational-rotational spectra. Also included will be an introduction to the use of synchrotron facilities (specifically the CLS) for the collection of High-Resolution spectra. Topics will include:
1. Collecting High Resolution Infrared Spectra at a Synchrotron
a. Introduction the Far-Infrared Beamline
b. Applying for Beamtime
c. Preparing for your beamtime
d. Brief OPUS tutorial
e. What makes an experiment a good candidate for synchrotron work
2. Basic Physics of High Resolution Spectroscopy
a. Nomenclature
b. Transitions
c. Selection Rules
d. Perturbations
3. Analysis
a. Loomis-Wood Plots
b. Combination Differences
c. Using Fitting tools
d. Understanding fitting parameters
e. Handling Perturbations
We are fortunate to have a number of excellent speakers for this workshop including:
Dr. A. R. W McKellar – Researcher Emeritus, National Research Council of Canada, Team Leader for the Far-Infrared Beamline at the Canadian Light Source
Dr. C. Western – Reader in Chemistry, University of Bristol, Developer of PGopher
Dr. D. Tokaryk – Professor, University of New Brunswick
Dr. A. Predoi-Cross – Professor, University of Lethbridge
The Workshop will be held on June 26th and 27th 2015 at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, directly after the International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy.
The cost of the workshop is $35 and registration is done through the International Symposium on Molecular Spectroscopy registration system.
