Hi Michelle,
Here are Glasgow we're using a set-up very similar to that at UEL. We have an eprints data repository (separate to our eprints publications repository) that is backed by Arkivum (though this isn't fully functional yet). We also use our repository for data which resides elsewhere. You can have a look at http://researchdata.gla.ac.uk/. We mint datacite DOIs for data we deposit in our repository using the datacite plugin for eprints. We've deposited several datasets over the last few weeks and are now ironing out the wrinkles in our workflows that have surfaced with use.
Although we've kept the publications repository and the data repository separate, they link to one another so you can click through to the publication from the data entry and vice-versa.
You're welcome to come up for a visit, but I suspect there are many similar set-ups a bit nearer to you!
Mary
