Hello,
Wondering whether Design History and Design Studies are becoming the same
topic?
When I read the curricula of academic programs in Design Studies, I find
mostly that curricula elements are either a subset of design history or,
like 'design criticism', have a strongly historical basis.
Same seems to be true of book and journal contents. For example, the list
of contents of Clark, H & Brody, D (2009) Design Studies: A Reader comprise
(almost 100%) historical topics relating to design
(http://www.bloomsbury.com/au/design-studies-9781847882363/). (I'm excluding
the Elsevier Journal 'Design Studies', which has its origin in
engineering/systematic design and to a large extent has managed to preserve
its outlook).
I welcome others' thoughts.
Best wishes,
Terry
