Hi everyone
I'm looking to recruit a Research Assistant. This ESRC funded post is available immediately for 3 months. Here's the details:
The successful applicant will interview asylum seekers and refugees about their experiences of their asylum appeal hearings. They will be responsible for recruiting interviewees to the study, which is part of a broader three year study of asylum appeal adjudication in the UK. They may also be involved in the design of interview topic schedules. The post can be based in London or another major urban area of the UK if the applicant has significant networks and contacts in this area. The applicant will be expected to work from home. There will be occasional meetings in Exeter to attend, whereupon travel and subsistence costs will be covered. Subsistence will not be covered otherwise however, and only travel significantly away from the urban area at which the researcher is based will be covered. The researcher can be lent a laptop computer and a Dictaphone if required to facilitate the completion of the work. Transcription will not be a required element of the post. Our target is a minimum of thirty interviews conducted over the three month contract. The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes and communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically.
It is essential that applicants possess a strong relevant first degree and desirable that they possess a relevant postgraduate qualification or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. Applicants will be able to carry out qualitative research interviews to a high standard; navigate the ethical sensitivities of working with asylum seeker and refugee communities; store sensitive data securely and work with an established team of researchers and work independently to reach specific goals. The post would ideally suit someone with existing links to refugee and asylum seeking communities.
We are keen to receive applications from the widest talent pool and to encourage this, applications from those wishing to work part-time or on a job share basis are encouraged.
