Dear all,
Today seems to be the day for job adverts (please see the first two links below my salutation)!
My news is that from this week I have taken up an academic post at Rhodes University, back in South Africa. I have been planning towards early retirement, and a set of events have now speeded up that process. I have been appointed at Rhodes to head up their community engagement initiatives and particularly to provide community psychology input into the training of clinical and counselling psychologists. So, this is a time of transition for me, and I'll be back in the UK/ Europe 11 June to 11 July (including being at the ECP in Milan), returning to York again in late August to pack up our household etc ... This is a very interesting time to be at Rhodes, and today we are having a 'peace march rejecting xenophobia...' (see details at the end) - how refreshing to be at a university where the VC will lead a march related to social justice!!!
So, there are two jobs being advertised at York St John University, and my colleagues have asked me to let this list know about these, to encourage people in the community and critical social psychology fields to apply - YSJ has a successful masters running in CCSP - see http://www.yorksj.ac.uk/postgraduate/postgraduate-study/courses/health--life-sciences/community--csp.aspx
I have cc'd my colleague Stephen Gibson into this email, so any queries could be directed to him (not as a response to this list).
This is my last posting from this YSJ address - I will amend my details, and my new work address is [log in to unmask]
All the best,
Jacqui A

AT RHODES UNIVERSITY, SA, 24/04/15
Peace march rejecting xenophobia and all other forms of intolerances and chauvinistic behaviours
Over the past fortnight our country has witnessed terrible violence perpetrated against fellow human beings from other parts of the continent and world. This violence is a frontal attack on the values enshrined in our Constitution. This is the time for us to publicly and unequivocally distance our community from the horrendous events of the past two weeks and affirm our commitment to living in peace with fellow human beings from other parts of the world. The Rhodes University Vice-Chancellor, Dr Sizwe Mabizela, invites the entire University community to join him in a peaceful demonstration to show the University's objection to the xenophobic violence recently witnessed in South Africa.
Following a Municipality stakeholder meeting on xenophobia on Tuesday and contact with a range of community groups, a broad range of people are working together on this issue.
Details of the event are as follows:
The entire community is invited to march to express our condemnation of xenophobia, and our commitment to live together in peace.
Starting Time: 13:00
Marchers will commence from two different locations:
Point A: Fingo Village Field
Point B: Rhodes University Main Admin Building
Both processions will meet at Church Square by 13.30 in front of City Hall.
Representatives from across the community will be asked to make short statements and we will have a minute’s silence to commemorate those who have lost their lives in the recent violence.
The gathering will adjourn at 14:00.
Participation from all local individuals, institutions, schools, faith-based groups, and civil society groups is very much welcomed, so please spread the word.
Please bring national flags and mourning symbols and encourage people to join us. Everyone welcome!
