Hi Erika,
Sounds like an exciting challenge! Hopefully the forum will prove useful to you, and you will be able to make some contacts too. I've discovered that it definitely helps having people to ask advice from!

Subject: [CIG-E-FORUM] Routes into rare book cataloguing
Hi everyone,
I am Erika Delbecque, and I am currently working as the Assistant Librarian at St Hilda's College, Oxford. As part of my role, I look after the college library's collection of around 1000 rare books, ranging from incunabula to private press items and everything in between. They are all uncatalogued. As a first step, I have drawn up a local cataloguing policy, and I have started cataloguing the first few items. Although I have volunteered at several Special Collections libraries in the past, this is the first time I am creating rare book records from scratch. As part of a small team in which there is no antiquarian cataloguing expertise, I am grateful for this opportunity, and I think that our discussions today and the practical exercises tomorrow will be very helpful for me.
Best wishes,
Erika
