It sounds like there's an argument for an RDA working group if there's something specific that can be delivered. From the RDA web pages: "Working Groups conduct short-lived, 12-18 month efforts that implement specific tools, code, best practices, standards, etc. at multiple institutions."

Thank you for the feedback on this proposal.
Disappointingly this project is not being funded as part of the Jisc research data spring. (I like to think this is down to the high quality and importance of other projects being being proposed in this codesign programme.) Nevertheless, the legal, ethical and practical issues with managing and sharing sensitive research data persist and there is still work to do to for us to understand, appreciate and shape the landscape so that we can encourage better collection, management and reuse of sensitive research data.
It has been suggested that it might be a good idea to:
A) Set up and start using an email list dedicated to issues of sensitive research data management
B) Form yet another RDA special interest group Perhaps though it is better not to do either of these things for the time being. What do you think?
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback. Hopefully what little we did in preparation for mapping the landscape of managing sensitive data will continue to be built on.

(Apologies for cross posting and if the RDA posting is barking up the wrong tree (and if so please direct me).)
As part of the UK Jisc Research Data Spring (http://www.jisc.ac.uk/rd/projects/research-data-spring) I have got involved in planning a project that if funded will look at classifying sensitive research data and mapping this onto storage options for these data at different parts of the research data life-cycle. The main output from this work would be some guidance documentation aimed at UK institutions and researchers that are to be disseminated by the UK Digital Curation Centre. The early phases of the work involve surveying the landscape and coming up with some clear and usable definitions. Community engagement will be key to the success of this project if it gets the go ahead. We are compiling a list of individuals and organisations to liaise with and hope that this sparks some interesting from here.
I should hear back in about a weeks time if the initial phase of this work is selected to be funded. I hope you are interested enough to have a look and feedback as appropriate on the draft project plan that is available for comment on Google Docs:
