The event Cumulus Mumbai 2015: 'In a planet of our own' is being held at Mumbai, India on 4,5, 6 December 2015, hosted by the Industrial Design Centre<http://www.idc.iitb.ac.in?utm_source=emailcampaign35&utm_medium=phpList&utm_content=HTML&utm_campaign=Call+for+Abstracts%3A+Cumulus+Mumbai+2015%3A+%27In+a+planet+of+our+own+-+a+vision+of+sustainability+with+focus+on+water%27> (IDC), at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Mumbai.



This international event is aimed at creating design awareness on sustainability bringing focus on water and simultaneously offers a platform for interaction for the art, design and media community. The events are centered around the interests of students, educationalists and practicing professional designers. The event is expected to throw light on the role of art, design and media in an interconnected global world within the context of sustainability.

The event has been designed to be lively, interactive and thought provoking and will provide great opportunity to converse with grandmasters of design, interact with thought leaders and listen to visions by outstanding speakers.

We invite a 500-800 word abstract with 2-3 visuals on the theme for the Conference - ‘in a planet of our own - a vision of sustainability with focus on Water’



The questions being addressed are:



- how can we as designers address the concerns of sustainability?

- how may we use Design as a construct for sustainable practices?

- what is the role of design in a connected global world within the context of sustainability?





The paper for the conference can be based on any of these:

- Outstanding Contributions in Research or in Academics

- Excellent Applications in Industry or in the Field as Case Studies

- Exceptionally Innovative Student Design Projects





And, the paper could be about:

- Concern/Issues in Sustainability with focus on Water

- Application of Sustainability with focus on Water

- Conceptual Student projects on Sustainability with focus on Water





Main-Themes:



The conference will have the following themes:

- Vision, Thinking and Philosophy in context to Sustainability

- Culture, Identity, Artefacts, Storytelling and Sustainability

- Design Process, Planning and Strategy for Sustainable best practices

- Production, Supply, Energy, Conservation, Preservation and Waste

- Awareness, Education, Curriculum and Policy





Call for Papers:



Both the abstracts as well as the papers will be double blind juried for selection. Accepted contributions will be published in the conference proceedings (ISBN).



The submission of abstracts for the papers is open.



The total number of words including the title, keywords and the abstract should be a maximum of 800 words.

Paper and Presentation Details:



Selected papers will need to be orally presented by the author/s during the conference on 4th and 5th December 2015 at VMCC, IIT Bombay, India.

The time duration for each of the paper presentations is 15 minutes followed by 5 minutes for discussion along with Q & A. The selected papers will be published during the time of the conference.

Formatting guidelines as well as a template for the full paper will be supplied along with the acceptance mail of the abstract.

Deadline for abstract submission: 31st of May 2015

Declaration of accepted abstracts: 30th of June 2015

Deadline for submission of full paper: 31st of August 2015

Paper selection results: 15th of September 2015
