Hi, I'm from a public library service in Wales which is in the process of adding RFID to some of our branches, and we're looking for some advice on how to manage reservations with self-service technology.
Currently we have our reservations on shelves in the staff workroom area, with staff moving back and forth to fetch them as requested, obviously this is quite staff intensive and with RFID allowing self service we were considering placing these reservations on open-access shelving within the library itself to allow borrowers to find their own books. We were wondering how other library authorities and services manage this?
Our main queries are-
Do we leave the books covered or uncovered on open access shelving?
Is there an issue of borrower anonymity/privacy?
Has anyone experienced issues with borrowers taking popular books reserved for another without issuing them?
If anyone has any answers or suggestions that would be great, especially if it's a potential complication I may have missed.
Thanks
Mick
