At the University of Chester, we add Masters dissertations which achieved a mark of 60%+ to our repository. The benefits include :
1. No longer accepting print Masters dissertations in the library - this has freed up a lost of space and saved future space.
2. 24/7 access to Masters dissertations for our students who no longer have to come to the library to see a dissertation in their subject area.
3. Our most popular downloads are Masters dissertations - far outstripping journal articles and PhD theses.
The downside is having to rely on the departments concerned to send the dissertations on CD (together with the forms) and having to add them all to our repository (quite a time consuming process).

As to Sara's question about the potential demand for a service making Masters theses available, it is an interesting question, as we do get quite a few requests from both Masters students and end users who have seen a reference to one of these somewhere or are doing biographical research on former Masters students...

I would agree that figshare or one of the social media sites such as Researchgate could be used here.
However, I'd also query why an institutional repository shouldn't hold Masters theses. We make Masters by Research theses available, and have had some requests from students like this to add their Masters. We are currently sticking to the research-based ones only, primarily related to workload of managing all others, but if a student is wanting to make their thesis available, what are the reasons why we wouldn't (University policies, etc., to one side)?
